Thetford Forest March 98

The B1106 towards Brandon
Park at the bottom of the hill on the right at the entrance to the access road.

One of the 5 main bombholes spread throughout the forest. It doesn't have
the steepest entry and exit points but it's good for a bit of freewheeling.

This is the forest access road at the bottom of the hill on the B1106 I
would recommend as a parking spot.
As far as cycle routes go if you turn immediately right or left, once through the gate,
some of the better singletrack can be found. To the left of the view below is tree block
97 and to the right is 98. There is a track which can just about be seen running along the
bottom of the picture.

The tracks through some of the younger trees don't provide much head room
and so a helmet is a must.

This is the steepest descent in the forest. The picture doesn't do it justice but the
angle at the top is about 50 degrees and the drop is approximately 10 feet. You have to
select the right gear to get out at the other side otherwise it's major stall time when
you run out of momentum.
This bombhole can be found at the junction of blocks 100, 98 and 99.
Try riding down this slope at night?

This route heads down to the forest access road shown above. This
track also passes through block 98.
As you can see the ground in most of the area is quite soft which makes it
hard going in some places. There is also a great deal of sand around that can give the
unweary cyclist a bit of a shock. Watch out for those high speed corners!
